Best savory jams: our top picks
Because we’ve expanded to talk about more than just mustard around here, we’re taking a look at a current obsession around here: savory jams. They’re perfect to add alongside mustards with charcuterie boards, they’re interesting on sandwiches, they make easy and fantastic sauces with minimal effort, they’re great marinate components, and, well, they’re just good.
Here are some favorites of ours:
The top spot goes to Artigiana Dei Sapori’s Calabrian Sweet Tropea Caramelized Onion Jam: This stuff is ridiculously good on just about everything. The company also makes a great little “cheese condiment” sampler gift pack of the aforementioned Calabrian jam, a berry jam, a chili jam and chestnut honey that is amazing.
Other clear winners:
Green Jay Gourmet Bacon Jam: This jam from Michigan-based small batch Green Jay Gourmet is a delicious swirl of apples, smoked bacon and caramelized onion that is excellent paired with sharp cheeses and wildly good on sandwiches (especially grilled cheese) and burgers.
Terrapin Ridge Farms Balsamic Onion Jam: The balsamic vinegar does some magical work in this onion jam that makes it amazing on sandwiches and burgers, but also really special on charcuterie boards with both strong and soft/sweeter cheeses. Terrapin Ridge also has a great sampler pack gift set that features raspberry honey mustard, a cranberry relish with Grand Marnier, a pecan honey mustard we have previously endorsed many times over, hot pepper bacon jam, and a blueberry bourbon pecan jam that is on the sweeter side.
Jammy Yummy Onion Jam: This jam is only five ingredients and the simplicity is a huge selling point.
Divinia Chili Fig Spread: Divinia has a lot of options, but this combination of sweet, earthy figs and spicy chilis is among their best. Honorable mention goes to their Peruvian Pepper Jam, which is another standout.
Tuscanini Savory Tomato Jam: This has an almost chutney vibe, but it’s savory and delicious and tomato-y and we’re fans. Their Hot Pepper Jam is great, too, and balances sweet and savory quite well.
